Major Backbone Upgrade Completed in Dallas

At Shift, we’re excited to announce a significant expansion of our Dallas network backbone. This upgrade represents an important step forward in our ongoing investment in scale, resiliency, and performance across key markets, and reinforces our commitment to delivering reliable, high-capacity connectivity for modern network requirements.

We’ve completed a new high-capacity deployment between 2323 Bryan and 1950 Stemmons, delivering a 400G-capable IP backbone supported by a 1.6 Tbps optical backbone. This deployment provides substantial headroom for growth while strengthening the foundation that supports high-performance services throughout the Dallas metro area.

Building Capacity for Modern Networks

Network demands continue to evolve as traffic volumes increase and applications require higher throughput and greater consistency. To meet these requirements, backbone infrastructure must be designed not only for current usage, but also for future expansion.

This new deployment adds additional optical capacity, bringing total optical capacity to more than 16 Tbps. By expanding capacity at the optical layer, Shift ensures the network can scale efficiently while maintaining stability and performance as demand grows.

Supporting this optical foundation is a 400G-capable IP backbone, designed to handle large traffic volumes and support high-speed services without introducing bottlenecks.

Strengthening the Dallas Backbone

Dallas is a critical market within the Shift network, serving as a major connectivity hub for customers and partners. Strengthening the backbone between 2323 Bryan and 1950 Stemmons improves the overall robustness of the Dallas metro network and enables higher-capacity services between facilities.

This upgrade enhances both capacity and resiliency by increasing available bandwidth and enabling more flexible traffic distribution across the backbone. As a result, the network is better positioned to handle traffic growth, peak usage periods, and evolving customer needs without compromise.

High-Capacity IP Transit in Dallas

A key benefit of this upgrade is the expansion of high-capacity IP Transit availability in Dallas. With increased backbone capacity and 400G-capable IP infrastructure, Shift is able to deliver IP Transit services designed to support demanding workloads and sustained traffic growth.

High-capacity IP Transit is now available out of:

  • DAL3
  • 2323 Bryan
  • 1950 Stemmons

By offering IP Transit out of multiple Dallas locations, the network provides customers with flexible deployment options and improved access to high-capacity connectivity within the metro area.
