Shift Hosting at WISPAMERICA 2025: Connecting, Learning, and Pushing the Industry Forward

Shift Hosting at WISPAMERICA 2025: Connecting, Learning, and Pushing the Industry Forward

Earlier this month, the Shift Hosting team had the opportunity to attend WISPAMERICA 2025—one of the year’s premier events for the wireless internet service provider (WISP) community. Held in Oklahoma City, the event brought together hundreds of providers, vendors, and innovators who are shaping the future of internet infrastructure and access across North America.

This wasn’t just another conference for us. It was a chance to step out from behind the screens and data centers, shake hands with the people building networks in small towns and underserved areas, and talk shop with those who truly get the grit it takes to scale infrastructure in today’s environment.

The Mission: Better Upstream for Less

At the heart of our presence at WISPAMERICA was a simple, powerful message: Shift Hosting is here to help WISPs and FISPs gain affordable, high-performance upstream connectivity.

Too many operators are locked into overpriced, underperforming transit agreements. We’re changing that by offering direct, flexible, and cost-effective upstream options with fewer hops, cleaner routes, and real-world savings.

Whether you’re a rural WISP looking to expand or a regional FISP tired of paying too much for inconsistent bandwidth, Shift Hosting is positioned to deliver the reliable, high-speed connections your network—and your customers—deserve.

Partnering with DE-CIX: Building Stronger Interconnection Together

One of the biggest highlights of WISPAMERICA 2025 was sharing a booth with our strategic partner, DE-CIX—a global leader in Internet Exchange infrastructure, now expanding regionally across the U.S.

Together, we showcased what’s possible when infrastructure meets interconnection. The response from attendees was clear: WISPs and FISPs are hungry for more direct paths, more control, and more affordability. Our partnership with DE-CIX makes that a reality.

Through this collaboration, Shift Hosting clients gain easier access to a growing number of peering opportunities, helping them cut transit costs, reduce latency, and build smarter, more efficient networks.

Meeting Our Customers Face-to-Face

Another major win: meeting our existing customers in person. These conversations went deeper than just day-to-day ops—we got real feedback on how Shift Hosting is supporting their growth and what more we can do.

It reinforced something we’ve believed from day one: we’re not just a hosting provider—we’re a partner.

Real Conversations, Real Needs

We also had dozens of chats with new faces—WISPs, MSPs, and operators who are actively hunting for better infrastructure and more reliable upstream partners. The common threads:
• Overpriced upstream costs
• Lack of flexibility in bandwidth and port sizing
• Generic hosting platforms that aren’t purpose-built for network operators

That’s exactly what Shift Hosting is here to solve.

What We Brought to the Table

We came ready with solutions built for providers, not just end users:
• Proxmox-based virtualization environments ready to deploy in minutes
• Dedicated and hybrid servers with customizable specs and clean ARIN IP space
• Affordable IP transit with smart routing and direct peering
• Flexible contracts and scalable ports designed with WISPs/FISPs in mind
• Seamless access to the DE-CIX peering fabric through our partnership

Looking Ahead

WISPAMERICA 2025 was more than just a great event—it was a validation of our mission and the momentum we’re building. From partnering with DE-CIX, to talking to customers face-to-face, to helping providers access better upstreams for less—we showed up with purpose.

If we met at the show, thank you—it was great connecting. If we missed you, let’s fix that.

Fixing SaaS Latency: IP Transit Tips for Global Expansion

Why global SaaS suddenly feels slow Many SaaS teams treat international expansion as a simple checklist: add an EU endpoint, translate the UI, maybe spin up a second region. Then support tickets start piling up: “It is slow in London,” “Sign in is laggy in Singapore,” “APIs are timing out from mobile.” The product did not change much, but user distance, IP transit paths, and cloud choices did. To fix global SaaS latency, you need to think less like “we added regions” and more like “we designed

When to Bring in a Network Partner Instead of Rolling Your Own IP Transit

Founders Don’t Want to Be ISPs If you run an infra‑heavy SaaS, a data platform, or an API business, you probably didn’t sign up to become an ISP. Early on, “the Internet” is just whatever bandwidth your cloud or data center gives you. Over time, graphs, bills, and incidents start to pile up, and you realise you’re debating BGP, 95th percentile, and upstream providers in Slack. At that point, you’re not just a cloud tenant anymore; you’re operating a small network. The hard question is: when doe

Peering for Startups: When You Should Care (and When You Really Shouldn’t)

Why Peering Even Comes Up for Startups For a lot of founders, “peering” sounds like something only big CDNs and eyeball ISPs do. It lives in conference talks and packet-nerd threads, not in the day-to-day reality of running a SaaS or infra-heavy startup. But if your product is moving real traffic, peering eventually becomes one more lever you can pull for latency, reliability, and cost. The trick is knowing when it is actually leverage and when it is just a distraction from more basic network w

How Much Internet Does a Startup Really Need?

If you build infra-heavy software, a SaaS platform, game backend, API product, or data pipeline, “the Internet” eventually stops being an abstract cloud thing and turns into a line item and a design problem. Early on, you just take whatever bandwidth your data center or cloud provider gives you. At some point, a graph, a bill, or a support ticket makes you wonder: how much Internet do we actually need and are we buying it the right way?
